In 1985, ceramic restorations completed in a single visit became a reality in dentistry. This was accomplished with the introduction of chairside computer aided design and computer-aided manufacturing systems (CAD/CAM).
Since then, numerous technological advances have taken place to allow dentists the ability to deliver high quality crowns, veneers, and inlays in one visit. This means no impressions and no temporaries in most instances.
The advantages to patients include esthetics (these restorations blend in with natural tooth structure extremely well and they have no metal:, function (strong, long-lasting and kind to opposing tooth structure) and convenience (a finished result in a single appointment).
At our office we utilize two brands of CAD/CAM restorations:
Paradigm: A significant upgrade over conventional tooth-colored filling (composite resin), this material can provide greater strength, longevity, and wear resistance and is an excellent choice in replacing silver fillings.
e.max: A superb material that satisfies the requirements for the highest quality veneers and crowns. It is strong enough to handle the loading forces on a molar, yet esthetic enough to create a beautiful veneer on a front tooth.
From a professional standpoint, it is extremely satisfying to be able to provide this type of service to our patients. The results can be outstanding.
